I got an email from Rogers
a couple of days ago:
The most trusted name in online security is now part of our all-in-one protection. Upgrade Now
- Award-winning* Norton AntiVirus™ and Norton Personal Firewall™
- Automatic updates, so you get the latest protection without ever having to become a security expert
- All this protection at no additional cost to you (Retail value: $109.98)
I already use NAV but it's about to expire, so this
seemed like good timing.
Yeah, a good idea ... right up until I actually started trying to install it! First off, it will only consider installing if you click on the link from Internet Exploiter - using a safer browser (e.g. Opera) is not acceptable to Rogers/Yahoo :(
Next, once it finished scanning to see what anti-virus / firewall software I already have installed, it popped up a message:

Apparently I have to uninstall my existing Norton Antivirus and ZoneAlarm firewall before I can even download the replacement software!
Did it not occur to anyone that removing anti-virus and firewall software and then downloading & installing software is dangerous?
If Rogers/Yahoo (or is it Norton/Symantec?) are telling me it's OK to do that without any protection then why do I need their software?
