Rebel XTi (EOS 400D) prices
27th-Oct-2007 08:37 am
It's like comparing apples & oranges (because of the different packages), but here's the current pricing:

Are there other stores I should check?

Assuming you're set on getting an XTi (have you held it yet? it gave me hand cramps), definitely check out the big US sellers. With the dollar what it is, you could likely find a bargain. Adorama, B&H, Beach Camera

If you're staying local, check Aden Camera, Hit Camera, Vistek, Robinson's Camera in Calgary...

I haven't held it for a long time, but I did notice that it's a bit small for my hand - a couple of people have suggested the extra battery pack will fix that.

I'm looking for my first decent digital SLR (I've used film SLRs for years) so any other recommendations?

D'oh! I walked past Aden yesterday and forgot to stop in.

Thanks for all the other names - I'll start checking them out.

What is your budget for, say, the body and lens? Do you have any existing lenses that you need compatible?

The XTi is at the far end of my budget, hence hoping to find it on sale somewhere :)

I don't have any digital lenses so I'm hoping to do a part exchange on my current SLR: it's a Minolta Dynax 500si. I've got 3 lenses: Tamron 28-300mm, Minolta 35-70mm and Minolta 70-210mm. (The Tamron is the only one I use these days.)

Aden's the winner on price so far.

Even though the Loonie is strong, I'll get stung for taxes for anything coming in from the States won't I? Mind you, as an example, Adorama have the XTi body for $590 (compared to $720 at Aden) but the taxes bump that up to about $690 I think.

Hold on - the price at Aden is pre-tax too! D'oh!

Tax, yes. Duty, no.
Only thing you have to verify first is if the warranty will be honoured in Canada.
27th-Oct-2007 04:25 pm (UTC) - one website to rule them all
check out http://www.photoprice.ca/ they give a rundown of all the major retailers (CAD & USA) and what the price is (including exchange from USD -> CAD)

You are my hero!

Still using the XTi body for comparison, it ranges from $700 @ B&H right up to $1050 at FutureShop - ouch!

Also check out downtown camera (they're Nex's place of choice)

They have really good prices (and where I've got D40 and stuff)

They seem on a par with Aden (and so cheaper than anywhere else downtown) - if either will do a part exchange for my film SLR + lenses then that could swing it ... but the US stores are still cheaper.

oh and there's also a website that compares canadian prices of all these places (but I didn't bookmark it and i'm trying to find it now)
