Cannot get PD620 (IDE-SATA converter) to work
19th-Sep-2008 11:58 am
Raised a support request for the PD620 (IDE-SATA converter):
I bought two PD620s and can't get either to work. I have two IDE hard drives that I need to connect via SATA. Both PD620s are set as IDE->SATA (the default settings), connected to SATA ports on motherboard and IDE power. When I power on the PC both PC620s have green lights but BIOS doesn't see the drives; nor does Windows or Partition Magic. There were no instructions in the box. Do I need to do anything more than just connect power and SATA cables? What about IDE settings? Should drive be Slave or Master?
Not holding my breath for a helpful response though. :(

I took the PD620 back to Canada Computers to exchange it but ended up picking up a different IDE/SATA converter which worked straight out of the box ... and then I tried the PD620 again, and it worked too! I can't explain why, but now it's working. I didn't change anything in the BIOS or the way I connected it.

Me too I had the same experience with the PD620. I spent the whole day trying different jumper combination on the drive and the adapter, and at the end of the day, it suddenly just work with a configuration I have tried before. Since (1 day), it has been working flawlessly.

I purchased "IDE to SATA adapter. (amazon.com - comp geeks) Have a DVD-RW I took from my other computer..save it, 'cause it was good..had NERO and I could burn a movie from camera that processed in .mov. New HP Win7, does not see .mov. It's in the NERO program. So, I took out slave from computer and hooked up the NERO DVD-RW drive. Does nothing. This adapter does not have a number...just states, converst parallet ATA to Serial ATA, Sjupports ATA 100 to 133, compliant with Serial ATA specifications. What could be wrong. Would appreciate your response. I've written the ComputerGeeks early this morning....nothing yet from them. For a return, Amazon tells me, they're not respons for the $14.55 I spent on this $6.99 part. BIOS in this comp, did not show when DVD-RW was installed, still showed the other one and there is no way to change. The BIOS on this is like "view and don't touch" Not like on my Gateway, I could change things!
