Listening to
TWiP #050 ("Printing for Photographers") and they're talking to
Andrew Darlow about good quality photo printers at a variety of price ranges. I stopped listening when they entered the hundreds of dollars range!
However, in the lowest price range, they talked about the
Epson Stylus Photo R280 (which has been discontinued) and Epson's Claria Hi-Definition Inks. A quick search led me to two other printers using those inks:
Epson Stylus Photo RX595 and
Epson Stylus Photo RX680.
BestBuy have the RX680 for $170 - "online only, sold out".
FutureShop have the RX595 for $130
Thanks for posting about the interview. I really enjoyed it. I checked the status of the R280 before my interview and it is still for sale on Epson.com for $99 new, and $44 as a refurb in the clearance center. The RX595 is very similar, but it is an all-in-one. Any of the Claria ink printers should perform similarly. The Epson 1400 is a step up though in size, which is nice.
All the best!
Andrew
